Japanese games developer Capcom has said that it expects to be generating 30 percent of its revenue through mobile games downloaded by iPhone and Android users, reports Bloomberg.

Capcom forecast in May that its mobile phone games will contribute 6.6 percent of operating profit to the year ending in March. In an interview, Capcom chairman Kenzo Tsujimoto said this proportion will increase five-fold in the next few years.

Capcom’s mobile games currently include titles such as Smurf’s Village. The company recently started to build games for Facebook and other social networks through its Beeline Interactive brand.

The purchase of Canadian mobile games developer Cosmic Infinity in 2006 has allowed Capcom to get some early experience in the sectors. “That allowed us to wait in ambush,” Tsujimoto told Bloomberg.

Tsujimoto hopes that the increasing popularity of smartphone-based games will prompt more casual users to play games on more powerful consoles. The company currently makes the majority of its revenue from console games such as the Resident Evil series.
