Apps tool provider Marmalade has launched an incentive programme to encourage developers to build apps for the Tizen open source operating system.

Developers will qualify for six-month Marmalade licences and Samsung devices running Tizen by taking part in the developer offer.

“These incentives enable developers from both inside and outside the Marmalade community to rapidly target the Tizen platform, and move beyond iOS and Android to reach new audiences, gain greater exposure and the potential for bigger revenues from their apps,” said Harvey Elliott, CEO of Marmalade Technologies.

In order to be eligible, app makers must sign up to the programme, deploy their app to Tizen using the Marmalade SDK and submit the programme to the Tizen Developer store.

The programme also makes use of the appbackr app scoring technology, giving developers the chance to receive additional cash payments of up to $10,000 based on the score they attain.

In addition, developers will be entered into the Tizen App Challenge, which runs until 8 December, and has a $4 million prize fund.

Marmalade started to support Tizen in July, when it also announced an incentive programme for developers working with Windows Phone 8.

Marmalade gives developers free access to its Windows Phone Dev Center SDK licence for one year and a licence extension to existing customers. It will also supply developers with a free Windows Phone 8 device for testing and deploying apps.
