LinkedIn has launched a version of its professional networking app optimised for Nokia’s Asha line of touchscreen devices aimed at developing markets.

The free app provides a personalised stream of news and updates from users’ networks, search and information for contacts, and allows users to follow up meetings.

“It’s a way to reach our members in emerging markets, by offering a feature-rich app on devices that are readily available and affordable in many markets. It allows us to work where our members work,” Giovanni Iachello, LinkedIn’s international product lead, told the Conversations by Nokia blog.

LinkedIn for Asha is available in English, Russian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Malaysia.

LinkedIn recently revealed that it has a total of 238 million members using its service.
