VIDEO INTERVIEW: Jeanie Han, CEO of LINE Euro-Americas, told Mobile World Live that the company, which has around 65 apps with 800 million downloads under its banner in addition to its core messaging app, is working hard in its efforts to be a “Life platform.”

The company has brought messaging, games, stickers and the ability to pay bills via LINE Pay into one place, with the mission to make a users’ life easier and become “the only app you need”.

In February, LINE set up an investment fund worth around $42 million “as part of efforts to expand its Life platform business”.

Games are still its number one revenue driver, followed by stickers, of which it offers 40,000 packs and which play a major role in its growth strategy.

“We have launched a creators market where anyone can submit and sell stickers. It is a great programme that celebrates artists and brings the community together,” the executive said, adding that “we have been coined as the godfather of stickers.”

She said the characters in the stickers have become celebrities in their own right, and pop-up stores selling LINE merchandise in places like New York’s Time Square and Bogota, Colombia have proved a success, not least because the company works with local celebrities and asks local artists to create customised sticker packs.

Han said the app is already number one in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand and is “growing rapidly” in European countries like Spain as well as Latin America and the US, where it has more than 25 million registered users so far.
