Leapfactor, a US-based enterprise mobility company, has launched a cloud/app hybrid solution intended to enable enterprises to mobilise any business application or process without the need to deploy and manage complex infrastructure and middleware, delivering users “actionable business data” using consumer-like apps. The system works by extracting data from backend systems through XML trading mechanisms, for delivery to the cloud using a secure and efficient data exchange channel. Cloud resources are then dynamically allocated to process and forward the data to users’ mobile devices, where it is accessed from an app.

Leapfactor says that customers and partners can create their own custom mobile apps in “less than 90 days”, using a collection of UI libraries the company provides, and a set of enterprise services specifically designed to support mobile business use cases. It also offers easy-to-implement methods and components, exposed as local services at the device level, to take advantage of device features and functions. Currently supported platforms are iOS, Android and BlackBerry.

The company has already announced three “micro apps” which are available to support the solution: Business Alerts, which is said to “cut through the clutter of email” to deliver, escalate, route, track and trace important messages; Business Indicators, which enables the publishing and rich virtualisation of business metrics on-the-go; and Business Approvals, which “extends decision approvals or rejections to mobile users, streamlining processes, saving time and increasing productivity.” The apps are already available for download from Apple’s App Store, having been “test-driven” by 4,000 users since a private launch in May 2010.
