Kakao, the South Korean messaging platform provider, has partnered with Android monetisation platform provider metaps, to provide game developers with increased commercial support.

Android developers building titles for the KakaoGame service — which gained more than 30 million users in its first year — will soon be able to tap into the metaps technology to attract users, increase engagement, generate revenue and exchange traffic through its network.

With Android holding a smartphone market share of more than 80 per cent in South Korea, there is fierce competition between game makers to attract users and improve engagement.

Kakao’s messaging service KakaoTalk, which KakaoGame runs on, recently reached 110 million users across 230 countries. Around 40 per cent of users are believed to come from outside the company’s home market.

Metaps mainly provides support to developers in South Korea, Japan, China, South East Asia and North America. Apps that make use of the metaps SDK have been downloaded 500 million times.
