Kabam, the maker of free-to-play mobile games, announced it will bring its titles to Windows Phone and Windows-powered tablets, extending its reach beyond Android and iOS.

Until now, the US-based company published its own games and third-party titles via dedicated channels in Apple’s App Store, Google Play, Amazon Appstore and on the web through Facebook, Yahoo and Kabam.com.

Over the next year Kabam will bring games including Fast & Furious 6: The Game, Dragons of Atlantis: Heirs of the Dragon and The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth, to Windows-powered mobile devices.

Any new games will be published for the Microsoft platform at the same time as iOS and Android.

Kent Wakeford, chief operating officer of Kabam, said bringing the company’s games to Windows Phone and Windows tablets “is a further step toward Kabam’s platform ubiquity”.

“Bringing its existing franchise games as well as future hit titles makes the Windows ecosystem even more robust,” added Steven Guggenheimer, corporate vice president and chief evangelist for developer experience and evangelism at Microsoft.

Guggenheimer noted that, in terms of monetisation, Kabam will benefit from the 61 operator billing connections Microsoft has in 36 markets.

Kabam has successfully transitioned from generating most of its revenue from Facebook games a few years ago to making much of its money through selling virtual goods in its free-to-play mobile games.

It has acquired a number of mobile game studios — most recently Phoenix Age — and expanded into publishing with agreements with prominent game developers in Asia such as Game Reign, WeMade, and Gfan.

Four of Kabam’s games have grossed more than $100 million to date, and its games are often among the top 25 grossing games on iOS and Android.

The games maker generated $360 million in revenue in 2013, and forecasts this to rise to $550-650 million in 2014. Kabam CEO Kevin Chou has said in the past that he expects an IPO by the end of 2014.
