Accommodation booking app HotelTonight has secured $45 million in Series D funding which it plans to drive growth and quickly expand in foreign markets.

HotelTonight said it would double its product, sales and support staff over the next year and will fund new international offices. It aims to strike new hotel relationships to become “geographically ubiquitous”.

The company said it will further enhance its on-demand booking platform with unique features aimed at the “mobile traveller”.

Since HotelTonight closed its Series C funding in June 2012, it has doubled the number of app downloads, to reach 6.5 million. The app is avaialble for iPhone, iPad and Android.

The funding has been led by technology-focused investment firm Coatue Management, which has a new $375 million fund dedicated to investing in private investment companies.

Coatue is joined by expansion stage venture capital firm GGV Capital and First Round Capital, along with existing investors Battery Ventures, Accel Partners and US Venture Partner. Total venture funding raised by HotelTonight now stands at $80.35 million.
