Social gaming company Gree has launched an initiative to support independent developers looking to build apps for its platform.

The Gree Loves Indies programme will provide US developers with tools and resources to help them launch and support titles.

It will also include an ‘Indie of the Month’ contest, the winner of which will receive a Gree-supported launch and release support campaign, including PR resources, game review and optimisation, integration support and post-launch support.

The games submitted via the Gree Loves Indies website will be judged on "creativity, user experience and innovation".

"GREE is a strong supporter of independent developers. They are responsible for pushing the limits of creativity and driving innovation within the mobile industry and I feel we have a responsibility to give them the tools and knowledge they need to work their magic," said Gree SVP of developer relations and marketing Eros Resmini.

Gree expects to launch the first games from the programme in the run-up to Christmas.
