Japanese social gaming company GREE announced it will make job cuts in the US, as it unveiled a fund intended to support its developer partners in the country.

It said the majority of itsUS-based games platform team will be moved to new departments with redundancies in some areas, as the GREE platform business is moved to Tokyo.

GREE recently announced the closure of the US-based OpenFeint platform, which it acquired for US$104 million in April 2011. Developers are being encouraged to migrate to the GREE platform.

The investment fund will be managed by a new publishing and partnerships group, and is focused on “second-party mobile game development”. It is kicking-off with a US$3 million investment in MunkyFun.

GREE is concentrating on its own titles and partner products in the US and acquired App Ant in September and invested in IUGO Entertainment as part of this strategy.
