Google launched several tools and updates to provide mobile developers with better backend support and localisation capabilities.

The company announced general availability of Google Cloud Endpoints, which allows developers to connect their apps via APIs to a backend running on Google App Engine.

Google described Cloud Endpoints as providing “a simple way to create, expose and consume APIs served from App Engine” that provides scaling, authentication and tooling.

It also released an update of Mobile Backend Starter, “a one-click deployable, complete mobile backend” built on Cloud Endpoints, which essentially simplifies server-side development.

The technology includes a client-side framework for Android and iOS, including support for Google Cloud Messaging and Apple Push notifications and user authentication. The update adds support for large media files.

Google also announced availability of its App Translation Service for all developers, meaning they can more effectively localise their titles to move into new markets.

Developers can purchase app language translations through the Google Play Developer Console, as part of a toolbox of localisation features.

The service was announced at the Google I/O developer’s conference in May, and has undergone a well-received pilot programme.

RV App Studios, the company behind Zombie Ragdoll, saw 80 per cent of installs coming from non-English language users after it used the tool to launch its new game simultaneously in 20 languages in August.

Dating app SayHi Chat launched in 13 additional languages, and saw a 120 per cent install growth in localised markets, as well as improved user reviews.
