Google ramps up Indian app efforts

19 OCT 2012

Google launched Google Play seller support in India, enabling developers in the country to sell apps, offer in-app purchases, and support subscriptions, with monthly payouts into local bank accounts.

The company said that in the country over the last year, Android device activations have jumped more than 400 percent, “bringing millions of new users to Google Play and driving huge increases in app downloads”.

It noted that developers can “take advantage of all of the tools offered by Google Play to monetise their products in the best way for their businesses, and they can target their products to the paid ecosystem of hundreds of millions of users in India and across the world”.

Developers based in India can start to take advantage of the new features by setting up a Google Checkout merchant account to receive payments. If apps are already published for free, developers can explore in-app purchases or subscriptions, while new apps can also be published as paid-for.
