Google has withdrawn what was billed as the official version of the Siri app for Android from Android Market, shortly after it first appeared on 28 December, reports The Next Web.

Siri is the voice recognition technology included in Apple’s iPhone 4S, launched last October. The use of the developer name “Official App” could potentially mislead users into believing the app was an official port for Siri, when it was in fact the name of the developer that created it. According to The Next Web, the app had been installed on more than 1,000 devices since it became available.

Google operates minimal checks on apps submitted to Android Market, allowing the Siri app to make its way into the store. The company has withdrawn all other apps made by “Official App”, including the Pinterest app, which is a mobile wrapper for the mobile website of the Pinterest online pinboard.
