Google Play gets Analytics integration

Android developers will be able to gain a better insight into how their apps are performing with the integration of Google Analytics technology into Google Play.

Developers will be able to identify how users discover their apps, what devices they use, what they do within the app and how often they return to it, via the Google Play developer console. Data can then be analysed by country, language, device, Android version, app version and mobile operator.

Google Analytics will allow developers to compare different campaigns, showing them what changes they can make to improve the performance of their apps. This will be particularly useful for developers generating revenue through advertising and in-app purchases, approaches that need high user engagement.

Separately, Google is now accepting app submissions for its Google Glass wearable computing platform. The Glassware Review Process covers design, usability, privacy, and security “to ensure the quality of Glassware and the safety of our users”.

Once approved, apps will be shown on the MyGlass website for configuring and managing Glass devices. Developers will also be “eligible to receive quota beyond the testing limit”, according to a Google+ post by Timothy Jordan, a senior developer advocate at Google.

Google confirmed in September that it is planning to launch an app store dedicated to Google Glass in 2014.

The company announced at its Google I/O developer conference that it is working on a Glass Development Kit that will allow developers to build software for Google Glass in the form of APKs (application package files).
