Google is planning to launch an app store for its Google Glass wearable computing platform in 2014, the company confirmed to Marketing Land.

Although Google confirmed the Glass app store was on its way, it did not share details about whether it would be integrated into Google Play or be a standalone offering.

Timothy Jordan, senior developer advocate at Google, recently posted on Google+ that the company is working on a process for developers to submit Glass apps “to get quota and be listed” — presumably on an official app portal.

Speculation regarding a Glass app store followed a reference to a ‘Glass Boutique’ in a software release for the device in July — although there was no actual code related to this.

It is unclear whether developers will be able to charge for apps when the store opens. The terms of service for the Glass API currently dictate that developers offer apps free of charge.

In July, Google encouraged developers to design and develop apps for Google Glass using the existing Android SDK, which allows developers to try out ideas before the full Google Glass development kit arrives.

The company announced at its Google I/O developer conference that it is working on a Glass Development Kit that will allow developer to build software for Google Glass in the form of APKs (application package files).
