Google introduced new features for its Google Play Games platform to give developers a better insight into player behaviour and allow them to manage features more effectively.

Launched in May, the Google Play Games platform provides a range of services to help developers make their apps more social by integrating achievements, leaderboards and multiplayer capabilities.

The platform, which is available to developers working with Android, iOS and other mobile platforms, also allows game progress and settings to be saved online.

Game services statistics have been added to the developer console, providing data on how many players are signed into games via Google, the percentage of players that have unlocked an achievement or how many scores are posted to leaderboards.

Game services alerts provides updates for any issues that developers need to fix, such as a game being throttled due to an operational error or if an update has been accidentally published. The alerts also direct developers to the information they need to fix the issue.

The final improvement is an increase in the capacity of the Cloud Save storage facility, from 512KB to 1MB per user.

Amazon’s GameCircle platform and WhisperSync offer similar functionality to Google Play Games and recently introduced support for iOS in addition to Android.
