Philippines operator Globe Telecom announced a partnership with Over-The-Top (OTT) messaging app company Viber, to offer subscribers call, text and mobile internet services bundled with Viber.

According to Globe, it is offering subscribers unlimited Viber use for PHP25 ($0.58) per day, including unlimited calls to Globe subscribers and to other Viber users, as well as access to the full range of services available via the app. For PHP20 per day it is offering a Viber Calls and Chat option, while for PHP10 there is a Viber Chat-only option.

Peter Bithos, senior advisor for consumer business at Globe, said: “The partnership is in line with our strategy to explore new revenue streams beyond call and text services, becoming a full-fledged digital brand.”

While Viber has built up a significant user base, it has only recently begun looking at its options for monetisation.

This has included work to add premium telephony features to its products, as well as the promise of chargeable value-added services.
