Tier-one games developer Gameloft is to launch its Gameloft Live! community portal as an app for the Android platform.

The Gameloft Live! portal allows users to compare game scores and communicate with others via IM or messages. Members can also create a personal Gameloft Live! 3G avatar. By earning in-game credits users can spend virtual money on accessories for their avatar.

The app also enables gamers to buy games through the Android app, avoiding the need to go to Gameloft’s mobile site.

A non-Android Market version of the app can be downloaded now, with the app due to arrive on Android Market and Apple's App Store soon, according to Recombu. Gameloft runs its own games store, which allows it to sell games in countries where Android Market is not present as well avoid Google's terms and conditions which include a15-minute refund period.
