Mobile gaming company Gameloft has reportedly closed its Indian office after announcing record sales for 2012.

Gamasutra understands that the company has shut down its studio in the Indian city of Hyderabad, with more than 250 game developers losing their jobs. The studio was primarily working on porting Gameloft games developed for iOS onto Android.

Gameloft recorded 2012 sales of EUR208.3 million, up 27 percent compared to 2011. Fourth quarter sales were EUR57.7 million, up 23 percent year-on-year.

Fourth quarter sales on smartphones and tablets grew 66 percent year-on-year. This business represented 56 percent of group sales, compared to 41 percent  during the same period in 2011.

North America contributed 31 percent of 2012 sales, EMEA generated 27 percent, APAC contributed 22 percent and Latin America made up 20 percent.

Gameloft attributed the positive results to the success of recent release such as Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour, World at Arms, My Little Pony and Playmobil Pirates. Older titles in its catalogue such as Ice Age Village, Order & Chaos Online, The Amazing Spider-Man and Asphalt 7: Heat also fared well.

The company added that its strong line-up of new games will translate into “solid growth” in sales and results for 2013.
