Mobile payments company Fortumo announced a developer programme and $1 million fund for those building apps for Windows Phone and Windows 8.

By integrating the Fortumo in-app purchasing SDK, developers can receive an advance of up to $25,000 to cover the process. Android and iOS developers bringing their titles to Windows are also eligible.

With the developer programme, Fortumo said it wants to “highlight the significant revenue opportunities of adding mobile operator billing also on Windows Phone and Windows 8”.

The company’s technology allows app users to charge in-app purchases to their operator bill. It extends the current reach of Microsoft’s own operator billing to emerging markets in Latin America, Easter Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Fortumo supports more than 40 currencies and 32 languages and works with the likes of Rovio, EA Mobile, Gameloft and Zeptolab.
