FeedHenry, the enterprise-focused mobile app platform provider, is to be acquired by open source software company Red Hat, for €63.5 million.

The acquisition will give Red Hat the ability “to support mobile application development in public and private environments”, according to the announcement.

FeedHenry enables enterprises to support mobile apps at scale by providing centralised security, notification and integration. Its technology also gives enterprises the means to accelerate mobile app development and backend integration.

Its platform works for Android, iOS, Windows Phone and BlackBerry, as well as hybrid apps, HTML5 and web apps. It supports toolkits including native SDKs and Appcelerator’s Titanium platform, as well as frameworks such as Xamarin and Sencha.

FeedHenry CEO Cathal McGloin said joining Red Hat gives the company “an opportunity to bring our leading mobile application platform to a wider audience of global customers and partners, to help them optimise for the mobile-first world”.

Craig Muzilla, senior vice president for Red Hat’s application platform division, added that FeedHenry “will help us enable customers to take advantage of the capabilities of mobile with the security, scalability, and reliability of Red Hat enterprise software”.

Analyst firm IDC has forecast that the mobile application platform market will reach $4.8 billion by 2017, compared with $1.4 billion in 2013.
