Facebook opened registration for its FbStart scheme, which it said “provides mobile developers with free tools and services worth up to $30,000 to help their startups succeed”.

Originally available to participants at the company’s f8 developer conference, it is now open to all. In order to qualify, applicants must have an app that has been live at least 30 days, and there is no need to be integrated with Facebook to enrol.

Selected partners will receive credits for Facebook and Parse, as well as free tools and credits from partners designed to help in areas such as product testing, recruiting, customer care, video conferencing, document management, “and more”.

Two tracks will be available: Bootstrap, for apps that are just starting out, and Accelerate, for apps that have shown some traction and are looking for further growth.

Since it was first announced at f8, several new partners have also been added to the roster, including Transifex to help with localisation, and HootSuite for social media monitoring.

FbStart will also offer events, programmes and best practices for participating developers, “with the expectation of year-round opportunities to engage with the Facebook team”.

“By providing mobile app developers with the essential services you need to get your business up and running – or take it to the next stage of growth – we’re hoping to help expand the overall app ecosystem,” Facebook said in a blog post.
