Facebook is testing its Messenger Day feature in Australia, according to reports, enabling users to add photos and videos to a feed which disappears in 24 hours, much like Snapchat.

Users can doodle on the images or add text to their posts and the feature is being called a “Snapchat clone”.

It is part of Messenger, which has more than 1 billion users, and was tried out in Poland last month. It follows not long after the release of Instagram Stories.

In an email to TechCrunch, a spokesperson said: “We know that people come to Messenger to share everyday moments with friends and family. In Australia we are running a small test of new ways for people to share those updates visually.”

“We have nothing more to announce at this time,” it added.

This is the same statement released after the service was tested in Poland.

In August Facebook was reported to be experimenting with a new feature on its app that gives users easier access to the camera and accommodates filters and stickers.

The capability, currently available to users in Canada and Brazil, was timed to align with the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and opens up users to Snapchat-like camera features.
