Given Facebook’s increasing reliance on mobile, it might come as a surprise that the social networking giant accounts for only 1 per cent of mobile data traffic generated on Android devices.

This is one of the findings from the Citrix ByteMobile Mobile Analytics report for Q4 (three months until end October).

The report also reveals that Facebook accounts for 3 per cent of transactions on Android.

Facebook fares better on iOS in terms of share, generating 5 per cent of total data traffic and 6 per cent of transactions.

Other findings from the report are that just three applications – Media Player, Browser and Google Play – generate the overwhelming bulk (83 per cent) of mobile data volume on Android devices. Media Player accounts for more than half.

Google Play, meanwhile, generates 10 per cent of total mobile data volume on Android, comparable with the 11 per cent associated with iTunes on iOS devices.
