Gaming giant EA announced an agreement to acquire PopCap Games, which it described as “a leading provider of games for mobile phones, tablets, PCs and social network sites.” The company is paying US$650 million in cash and US$100 million in stock, with possible additional “earn out” payments of up to US$550 million. EA is looking to strengthen its position in the mobile and social games sectors, against increasing competition from rivals including Zynga and DeNA.
