An Australian software developer has revealed that Google allows Android developers to view the personal details of people who buy apps in Google Play.

Dan Nolan said in a blog post that he discovered the issue when looking at the merchant account feature for developers, which allowed him to see the details of people that had bought his app.

“Let me make this crystal clear, every app purchase you make on Google Play gives the developer your name, suburb and email address with no indication that this information is actually being transferred,” he wrote.

He added that the information could be used to track down and harass users that had given negative reviews of apps or refunded an app purchase.

Nolan is the developer behind the (former Australian Prime Minister) Paul Keating insult generator which hit top spot in the Apple App Store in Australia and was recently launched for Android.
