Japanese social gaming company DeNA plans to acquire the Punch Entertainment Company game studio in Vietnam to expand its development for the Mobage mobile social gaming network.

The Hanoi-based studio develops games for iOS and Android and is currently owned by US-based Punch Entertainment. DeNA expects the transaction to be completed by the end of September, bringing in 50 additional staff.

“We believe the acquisition will significantly accelerate DeNA‘s game development and deliver high-quality social games for the Mobage platform. The acquisition also underscores our commitment to support the game developers’ community in Vietnam,” DeNA president Isao Moriyasu said in a statement.

DeNA launched the Mobage network in December 2010 with an Android app for Japan following in May 2011.

The company has further extended the network with an iOS client for Japan and Android versions for English-speaking markets and China. The company also reached an agreement with AT&T to launch Mobage in the US later in the year.
