App analytics firm Crittercism said that Android has a better average daily crash rate than Apple’s iOS, with the more recent versions of both platforms performing better than earlier ones.

According to the company, Android has an average crash rate of 1.76 per cent, compared with 1.98 percent for iOS. However, for Android Jelly Bean the rate falls to 1.5 percent, and for iOS 6 drops to 1.15 percent.

The worst performing platforms were iOS 4.1 and Android Gingerbread 2.3.1.

The company said that “upon further inspection, we found most of the high crash culprits were less accessible and less popular devices (like carrier- or region-specific devices); or tablets”.

Crittercism also noted that while 66 percent of iOS users have adopted the latest version of the platform, only 4.75 percent of Android users have adopted Jelly Bean – meaning they are missing out on the stability improvements.

The company said it had achieved “a record year in 2012”, with user registrations increased by more than 740 percent.

It also said it analysed more than 35 billion app launches, across 420 million devices.
