San Francisco-based start up PubNub, which offers a network for developers to build real-time apps, has raised $20 million in a Series C funding round led by Sapphire Ventures and joined by prior investors Scale Venture Partners and Relay Ventures.

Accoridng to Todd Greene (pictured), co-founder and CEO, “It’s time to accelerate our global growth and cement our position as the the leading data stream network for secure and reliable real-time communication over the Internet.”

PubNub also wants to expand its sales and marketing efforts, and roll out a number of improvements and new features on its network this year.

The network provides global cloud infrastructure and key building blocks for real-time interactivity and the company claims to power thousands of real-time apps around the world, managing 3 million real-time messages per second and 100 million devices per month.

It also supports over 50 SDKs for mobile, browser, desktop and server with 14 data centers around the world.
