Mobile app promotion network Chartboost announced a closed beta of its platform for Android, enabling Android game developers to sell their ad inventory directly to other games publishers, avoiding the commission that other ad networks charge.

The company said that smaller developers can use the platform to cross promote their games for free, also gaining a new monetisation option that uses customisable full-screen interstitials (pictured).

Chartboost ran a closed beta of the platform with Android developers, Animoca and Storm8, with several other large publishers working to integrate the technology following the opening up of the beta.

"With the Android Market topping 10 billion downloads earlier this year and Android phones outselling iPhones by a 2-to-1 margin in the last three months, and many people purchasing new mobile phones over the holidays, now is the perfect time to launch the platform for game publishers to maximize the revenue potential of their apps," Chartboost co-founder and CEO Maria Alegre said.

Founded this year, Chartboost recently secured US$2 million in initial venture funding to expand its reach and product development.
