Bump Technologies, the company behind an app which enables customers to share contact details by bumping devices together, announced the addition of app sharing in its latest Bump 2.4 release for iOS. The feature enables users to “bump” a link to an app to a friend, enabling them to download it from the iTunes store. The feature is already supported by its Android app.

Bump’s technology comes in two parts: the handset app, and a cloud-based smart matching algorithm. When a handset is “bumped” against another, the server matches up the corresponding handset, and the two are then paired. It says that it uses “various techniques to limit the pool of potential matches, including location information and characteristics of the bump event.”

Last month, Bump said it had secured US$16m in its latest funding round.
