Cloud content service provider Brightcove has updated its App Cloud development platform to include new plugin and push notification support.

The open native plug-in architecture has a range of APIs for integration with third party technologies from the likes of Google and analytics firm comScore, meaning more native functionality can be based in App Cloud.

The plugins in the App Cloud library are all tested and fully supported so developers know they will function correctly. A plugin development kit is also in the pipeline so developers can build and integrate their own plugins.

The update also expands App Cloud’s push notification capability with a set of client and service APIs for sending push notifications to particular users or creating user segments to improve engagement.

“Publishers and brands now need a complete platform that spans the entire lifecycle to help them develop, customize, operate, market, iterate and extend the lifetime of their apps,” said director of product management for App Cloud, Phil Costa.

The new plugin architecture is now available to all users, including those using the free open source versions.
