Enterprise content-sharing platform player Box announced Box $rev, which it described as “a new program for developers to monetise their applications on the Box platform and bring new innovation to the emerging enterprise app economy”.

The company will measure customer interactions with third-party apps integrated with Box, and pay developers based on that use.

It also introduced new SDKs for iOS and Android which enables the functionality to be embedded, including support for single sign-on.

Box said that the programme will give developers access to its “global network of more than 150,000 businesses, including 92 per cent of the Fortune 500”.

Aaron Levie, co-founder and CEO, said: “Mobile has democratised the app market and created a huge opportunity for developers, but enterprise apps are still struggling to monetise effectively. Box $rev changes this by creating a simple incentive programme for developers to generate revenue, in turn supercharging a much richer app ecosystem for businesses and individuals everywhere.”
