RIM announced an update to the BlackBerry Social Platform SDK for its legacy Java-based BlackBerry platform, providing additional tools for developers who have integrated social functionality based on BlackBerry Messenger into apps.

Among the features added is the ability for an app to determine how it was invoked from within the BBM application. This will enable developers to monitor if users are launching their titles after a personal message, chat bubble or profile box title clicks.

Users can also now manage settings to allow an app to connect to other users, and a check box has been added to permit apps to post information to a BBM profile.
