BlackBerry announced a raft of new enterprise apps, as well as the integration of Amazon Appstore support, as part of the launch of its latest Classic smartphone.

BlackBerry expanded its portfolio of enterprise titles available for the device through partnerships with a number of vendors, including Bloomberg, SAP and Cisco Systems.

The apps, which will be available from early January 2015, address a range of industries, including healthcare, financial and professional services.

Peter Ng, BlackBerry’s senior director of global alliances & business development, said the company is “actively working to deliver secure vertical applications, whether they are helping patients in a hospital, looking for real-time marketing trading information, or filing legal documentation while on the road visiting clients”.

The Classic features two preloaded app storefronts: BlackBerry World, which offers essential productivity apps; and Amazon Appstore, which provides access to popular Android apps, including Candy Crush Saga, Pinterest, Kindle for Android and Cut the Rope 2.

The company announced it would bring Amazon Appstore to its BlackBerry 10 devices in June through the BlackBerry 10.3 OS update.

The addition of Amazon’s storefront provides users with access to more consumer-focused apps while BlackBerry addressed enterprise needs via its own portal.

Any Android apps downloaded by BlackBerry devices can be scanned for malware and privacy issues using the BlackBerry Guardian security tool.
