Research In Motion said that its BlackBerry App World store now has more than 10,000 products available, indicating stronger momentum for the store, which is now available in 65 markets with support for six languages. However, it also shows it is some way behind the approximately 80,000 applications available from Android Market and 250,000 included in Apple’s App Store catalogue. While RIM has not recently offered many details of its App World performance, it is expected to be more forthcoming at its imminent BlackBerry DevCon event. In addition, Sanyu Kirulata, team lead for developer relations, EMEA, at the company, also provided some highlights in a recent conference call.

According to Kirulata, there are “approaching” one million downloads from BlackBerry App World every day, and more than 20 million unique downloads of the BlackBerry App World client software have taken place. The store also has a paid app catalogue in all of the markets where it is available, whereas previously in some markets only free products were available. Research In Motion recently introduced BlackBerry App World 2.0, which introduced carrier billing support, giving customers the choice of on-bill, credit card and PayPal for payments. Version 2.0 also brought the minimum price point per app down to US$0.99, compared to earlier minimum limits of US$2.99. It has also adopted the “industry standard” 70/30 revenue spilt, having previously offered a more generous 80/20.
