Barnes & Noble has partnered with cloud-based mobile app platform company Appcelerator to boost the development of apps for its NOOK Color Reader Tablet.

The partnership means the deployment of apps developed for the book retailer’s tablet on Appcelerator’s Titanium open source developer platform can be accelerated.

The 200,000 developers working on Titanium – which supports numerous programming languages – will be able to join Barnes & Noble’s NOOK Developer program to submit apps to the NOOK Store for users to download.

As the NOOK Color now has millions of customers, Appcelerator said the partnership provides mobile app developers with ample opportunity to generate significant revenues by building apps for the device.
