appMobi announced openBuild, a cloud service which allows developers to compile HTML5 code into a distributable hybrid app.

The company said the tool can be used to create binary apps for sale in stores including Apple’s App Store, Google Play, Amazon Appstore and Barnes & Noble Apps. It also supports desktop app stores such as Facebook, Chrome Web Store, Mozilla Market and Intel App Up.

The service supports all HTML5 and JavaScript frameworks, offering developers using jQuery, jqMobi, Enyo, Meteor, Sencha Touch or any other mobile-ready framework a tool to compile code into store-ready apps.

The company also said that with openBuild, it “initiates its support” for the Heroku cloud app platform. Using the openBuild packaged Ruby library, developers can create scripted cross-platform app builds from within Ruby-based environments, such as Heroku or EngineYard, or from their own computer.

appMobi said that unlike other hybrid app build services, including Adobe’s PhoneGap Build, openBuild is free, with no limit on the number of apps that developers can build or publish.

Previously, appMobi’s cross-platform build and packaging services were only available through its appHub “app control centre”. With this release, openBuild and appMobi’s other cloud services are available to developers as web services.
