appMobi released a software development kit and detailed performance specs for its directCanvas technology, which it said has been created “to eliminate performance and capability barriers that have hampered the growth of HTML5 and the open web as the ultimate platform for mobile games.”

The company said that the technology includes rendering acceleration, multichannel sound playback, and 2D physics acceleration, to improve the performance of HTML5 apps.

appMobi said that the iOS version of directCanvas was released as open source in November, and the SDK release supports its use for HTML5 game development. In the first quarter of 2012, it will release directCanvas for Android.
