Online services company Applicasa launched a version of its platform, which enables developers to integrate cloud-connected backend functionality into their native apps without having to enter any server code, for Android.

The service supports features such as geo-location, push notifications, shopping carts and customised deals. It was launched for iOS in February 2012.

Applicasa now has 2,500 registered iOS developers and expects a similar number to be quickly reached on Android.

Many app developers lack expertise in server-side development, which can be complicated, time consuming and expensive. Some may therefore leave out cloud-enabled features or spend additional money on third-party developers to do the work.

“We’ve seen first-hand how difficult it is for mobile app developers to build the back-end infrastructure required for full-featured mobile applications,” said Applicasa CEO Lior Malenboim.
