Apple has had one million app submissions to its App Store since the app marketplace was introduced in July 2008.

App store analytics firm Appsfire announced the milestone had been reached via a tweet, with co-founder Ouriel Ohayon telling The Next Web that 493,289 of the submissions have been paid, with 158,848 falling into the games category.

There are currently 736,247 titles in the App Store with 336,270 (45 percent) paid and 120,065 games (16 percent). The figures only count iOS apps, with Mac App Store apps not included.

The App Store is accessed by most iTunes account holders, with 35 billion downloads in the four years it has been in existence. Apple CEO Tim Cook said at the launch of the iPhone 5 that 90 percent of all apps are downloaded each month.
