A seven-day refund policy for downloaded apps for Apple devices in Taiwan has been cancelled without Apple Asia being informed, Focus Taiwan reported.

Users complained to Apple about the change but discovered the Asian division of the business was unaware of the withdrawal of the refund policy. Chairman of Taipei’s Regulations Committee Yeh Ching-yuan told Focus Taiwan that Apple Asia’s lawyer said he was unaware of the matter.

Yeh said it is unclear if the deletion of the refund policy was an updating mistake or intentional withdrawal as the city government was unable to reach Apple in Cupertino to clarify the matter due to the US Labor Day holiday.

The return policy was implemented in July to comply with Taiwan’s consumer protection laws and is unavailable elsewhere. The policy doesn’t apply to digital products that offer free trials, however.

Google was reportedly fined TWD1,000,000 (US$35,000) in June for refusing to offer customers a seven-day trial period for downloaded apps.
