Apple has pulled discovery title AppGratis from the App Store, having fallen foul of rules which prohibit apps that promote other products “in a manner similar to or confusing with the App Store”.

According to GigaOM, AppGratis also broke rules related to push notifications, due to the way in which it notifies users when a new “app of the day” is available for download.

AppGratis is not the first app to be caught out by this condition: last year it was reported that rival title AppShopper had also met the same fate.

However, having more than 10 million users, and driving more than 1 million daily downloads for some of the titles it promotes, AppGratis has achieved a notable degree of success.

Indeed, the app has been in the store catalogue for some time, and has proved an effective tool in helping developers promote their products, leading to questions as to why it has been removed now.

Earlier this year, AppGratis announced a $13.5 million funding round, intended to drive its international growth.
