Developer tools company Appcelerator has seen a "marked increase" in the amount of apps being built that relate to the Olympic Games in the past three months.

With the huge interest in the Games in London, the Appcelerator community is using the Titanium platform to build apps that complement the consumer viewing experience.

"The ubiquity of mobile devices is enabling the world to experience the Olympics in a whole new way," said Appcelerator senior product manager Gabriel Tavridis, adding that the Appcelerator developer community now has more than 300,000 members.

Titanium allows up to 80 percent of code to be reused across device platforms, meaning it was relatively quick for developers to build Olympic-related apps.

Titles built include: London 2012, which provides venue and event information for the Olympics and has been downloaded more than 15,000 times; and Deck Pass, which focuses on the Olympic swimming events with live results and athlete information.
