US-based developer tools company Appcelerator has been acquired by enterprise data management software player Axway.

“The acquisition confirms our strategic ambition to help organisations succeed in their digital journey by connecting people, processes and things across their digital business ecosystem,” said Jean-Marc Lazzari, CEO at Axway.

“And I am excited about the talent, innovation and product capabilities Appcelerator brings,” he added.

Appcelerator, located in San Jose, California, was founded in 2006 and is the company behind Titanium SDK, which it said is used in 185 countries for building cross-platform apps.

“The Appcelerator Platform is purpose-built for digital business, handling over two billion cloud API calls per month and powering mobile apps running on over 350 million devices,” Axway said in a statement.

“The combination of Axway’s digital enablement solutions and the Appcelerator Platform allows anyone to quickly create great apps, easily integrate them to existing systems using APIs, manage backend services at scale, and optimise performance with comprehensive analytics,” it added.

Appcelerator’s CEO Jeff Haynie said: “Axway’s global footprint and significant investments in their API suite line up perfectly with our own expansion aims and our R&D roadmap.”

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

According to TechCrunch, Appcelerator had raised around $88 million before the deal. Haynie said the deal worked out well both for investors and Appcelerator staff.

Axway will keep the acquired company’s offices and staff.
