Appbackr, which describes itself as a “wholesale marketplace for apps,” launched its “biggest campaign ever” in order to raise US$100,000 to support the development of educational app Cowboys & Aliens: The Kids. The company is seeing individuals to participate in a “crowd funding” model to raise the cash, with participants able to pay “as little as US$23.” People funding the app will receive 27 percent of the profit as the app sells in the Apple App Store, with the funds raised used to “support the app’s worldwide distribution and to build out the app for other devices.”

The app is based on the new Universal movie Cowboys & Aliens, and is designed for children between 3 and 8 years old. It is being produced by Orbit Media Group, and will retail for US$4.99. Orbit is also planning to make a donation from each sale of the app to the Starlight Foundation, to “continue its mission of brightening the world for seriously ill children.”

Mobile Apps Briefing spoke to Appbackr about its plans close to its launch last year.
