iOS apps crash more often than Android apps, according to monitoring company Crittercism, with nearly three quarters of crashes occurring on the Apple platform between 1 December and 15 December 2011.

The version of iOS with the most crashes was iOS 5.01 with 28.6 percent of all crashes, although this can be attributed to it being the newest version – which mean some apps will need to be tweaked to work properly on the OS.

The top performing Android titles crashed 0.15 percent of the time they launched, while the comparative figure for iOS was 0.51 percent. Of the worst performing products, Android apps crashed 2.97 percent of the time, while on iOS it was 3.66.

However, Crittercism CEO Andrew Levy told Forbes that the difference between the operating systems could be due to the launch of iOS5 in October. He added that he expects similar levels of app crashes when Android Ice Cream Sandwich is more widely distributed.
