Google has confirmed that its Android Market application store now offers over 80,000 apps. In a statement yesterday announcing the launch of HTC’s Android-powered G2 smartphone, Andy Rubin, VP of engineering at Google, commented: “On Android Market alone, the number of applications available to consumers has grown from just 50 applications two years ago to more than 80,000 applications today.” By way of contrast, Apple’s App Store boasts 250,000 apps, whilst BlackBerry App World has hit a catalogue of 10,000 apps.
