Susan Wojcicki, SVP of Ads at Google, used the company’s second quarter results conference call to highlight momentum in the Android ecosystem, stating that the company’s Android Market “has over 250,000 apps, and users have downloaded apps over 6 billion times.” The 6 billion total was said to be “double the downloads from just a few months ago.” Wojcicki noted that the Android Market is “expanding beyond apps,” following the company’s launch of ebook sales and movie rentals for US consumers earlier this week. It also has a music service in beta.

According to the company, there are now more than 550,000 Android device activations daily (the 500,000 milestone was announced recently), which Larry Page, Google’s CEO, described as “a huge number, even by Google standards.” A total of 135 million Android devices have now been activated, up from 100 million two months ago.
