Amazon’s anticipated Android application store will become more popular than Google’s Android Market, according to Wireless Intelligence analyst Will Croft (pictured). He claims the new entrant will benefit from the company’s “vast experience in selling digital goods, its more robust worldwide commerce agreements and optional-DRM requirements (satisfying open source developers).”

Croft believes that one of the main benefits Amazon will offer will be in terms of payments, with existing paid-app distribution on Android Market “hindered by Google Checkout and in particular the number of countries in which billing is supported.” Croft’s comments come against a backdrop of concern from developers about the user-friendliness of Android Market, both in terms of finding products and making payments – contrasting with the smooth process offered by Apple’s App Store.

On a more general note, Croft also says that 2011 will be “the year that in-app advertising takes off with a majority of paid-for apps migrating to a ‘freemium’ model.”
